Obama is Today's King George

Today we celebrate our independence. But since the Declaration of Independence and the later writing of our Constitution, our freedoms have slowly been whittled away. So it is fitting today to take a look at the Declaration of Independence and make some comparisons to current events.

In the Declaration, our founders said, “Government derives its power from the consent of the governed … whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it … as to them shall seem most likely to affect their safety and happiness. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty to throw off such government and to provide new guards for their future security.”

Fellow American citizens, it is time to throw off that government that has not been operating with our consent and provide new guards for our security by electing people who will stand by our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution.

In examining the Declaration of Independence, to relate it to today, one can simply just take out the name King George and insert Obama. Republic Roots offers below the words from the Declaration and comparisons to today’s events.

The history of the present King of Great Britain (President of the United States) is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these States. To prove this, let the facts be submitted to a candid world.

He has refused his assent to laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good! (Obama refuses to enforce border and immigration laws leaving border states to fend for themselves, resulting in lives and property being lost).

He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation til his assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them. (Again, border laws are unenforced and Obama constantly defies states that pass laws to remedy the situation. He also refuses to enforce voter laws – the Black Panthers who intimidated voters in 2008 went free – and he and Attorney General Holder are vilifying Florida for passing simple laws to require i.ds be shown at the polls. We all must show i.d. for the very basic things in life and it’s considered wrong to require this at election polls? Ridiculous!!)

He has dissolved representative Houses repeatedly for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people. (Obama has repeatedly bypassed Congress and to date has signed 129 executive orders. He bypassed the Senate to install three members of the National Labor Relations Board and a director for the controversial Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. He bypassed Congress and current U.S. Immigration laws with executive orders to provide for backdoor amnesty for illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. before age 16 and are now no older than 30, stopping their deportation and providing a temporary permit so they can live and work in the U.S. legally. Congress was preparing a similar law, but Obama decided to do it on his own. These are only a few examples. Obama consistently upsets the balance and separation of power when he ignores federal law. The White House maintains that executive orders are necessary because Congress refuses to give the president what he wants. Excuse me? Mr. Obama, there are three equal branches of government and established rules for passing laws, but you have become a self-appointed king!)

He has erected a multitude of new offices and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance. (Obama has appointed more than 30 czars, the number of federal employees has increased by 58,000 and the IRS will be hiring more than 1,000 new employees to enforce Obamacare. He has insured that we will soon have no control over our very life due to Obamacare. A vast new bureaucracy including 150 new boards has been given power over health care markets. Individual liberty and the freedom to decide with your doctor the course of your medical care will now be in the hands of an unelected panel of 15 who will have the power to decide what health care all U.S. citizens are permitted to receive. The burden of government regulations and government workers to enforce these continues to expand).

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our Constitution. (Obama is seeking to join with the U.N. in treaties to usurp our sovereignty, including establishment of an international criminal court, a Law of the Sea treaty that would require the United States to pay an international body half of its royalties from offshore drilling, small arms control that could evolve into a backdoor way to require national registration of all guns and to assert federal regulation over firearms and an Outer Space Code of Conduct that would stop debris from accumulating in outer space and could prohibit the United States from deploying missile defense platforms in space that counter missile threats from the likes of Iran and North Korea).

For taking away our charters, abolishing our most valuable laws and altering fundamentally the forms of our governments. (As outlined previously, Obama has consistently ignored the Constitution and existing laws. He repeatedly said in his campaign he would “fundamentally change” America. He is assuredly altering the forms of our governments through his rule by fiat and executive order).

He has abdicated government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us. (Can you say, immigration laws and Arizona?)

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us. (Obama sided with the Occupy movement and continues to divide us by instigating class warfare and further divide us through race, gender and sexual preference issues).

Obama has proven himself to be in the words of our founders “a Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.”

To maintain our freedom, we need to reject our current entitlement society and throw off the shackles that government is now trying to impose upon us. For too long, we have traded our freedom only taking on more threats to our liberties on a path to again become serfs of a king or slaves of a plantation master. When we hand over our liberty to a government, we are becoming serfs and slaves to that government.

President John Kennedy said, “Every time that we try to lift a problem from our own shoulders, and shift that problem to the hands of the government, to the same extent we are sacrificing the liberties of our people.”

On this day, we must pledge again, as our founders did, to pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor. Our country’s survival and our basic freedoms and liberty are at stake. Instead of defeating a King George through war, we must defeat Obama and his minions this fall at the ballot box.

Obama Threatens Court, Constitution

Earlier this week, President Barack Obama made stunning statements about the Supreme Court concerning the upcoming decision regarding Obamacare and its constitutionality.

His words:
 “Ultimately, I am confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress.

“And I’d just remind conservative commentators that, for years, what we have heard is, the biggest problem on the bench was judicial activism, or a lack of judicial restraint, that an unelected group of people would somehow overturn a duly constituted and passed law.”

These statements are outrageous.

First of all, Obamacare wasn’t passed by a strong majority – it passed by only seven votes (219 to 212) and that was through coercion, intimidation and outright bribery of members of Congress. Remember the cornhusker kickback and the Louisiana purchase?

Second, the Supreme Court overturning a law is not unprecedented nor an extraordinary step. Article III, Section 2 of the Constitution provides judicial power to decide whether a law is unconstitutional. Further, precedent was set with the Marbury v. Madison case of 1803, authorizing the federal judiciary to review laws enacted by Congress and the president and to invalidate those that violate the Constitution.

Third, Mr. President, the Supreme Court making a decision on whether your Obamacare is unconstitutional is not judicial activism. Judicial activism is making laws from the bench. The Supreme Court is reviewing your awful law to determine once and for all its constitutionality. And that is well within their duties.

The President should know this. After all, he went to Harvard Law School, was editor of the Law Review and even taught Constitutional law at the University of Chicago.

And people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones, right? Mr. Obama, what about your unelected czars and government bureaucrats who have been so busy during your administration writing rules and issuing edicts?

Bravo to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Jerry Smith ordering the Department of Justice to provide three single-spaced pages by noon Thursday, April 5, discussing whether or not the president believes the courts have the right to rule acts of Congress unconstitutional. Finally, someone is standing up to one of the many misrepresentations of truth and disregard for the Constitution by this President, who duly swore to uphold it. He’s circumvented Congress, trampled on the Constitution and has totally disregarded the equal power of the three branches of government.

Obama is acting more like America’s first dictator. What he has said this week is outrageous and should alarm every American. He deserves no one’s vote in November.

It is entrusted for certain defined purposes, and for a certain limited period, to representatives of their own choosing; and whenever it is executed contrary to their interest, or not agreeable to their wishes, their servants can, and undoubtedly will, be recalled.

America is a Republic

There’s a reason that Article IV Section 4 of the Constitution states: "The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican form of Government, ….



There’s a reason that our Pledge of Allegiance says, “and to the Republic for which it stands.”


Our founding fathers set forth our government as a Republic and they were very deliberate in their efforts to not put the word democracy in the Declaration of Independence or the U.S. Constitution.


For posterity, they gave us also the Federalist Papers to explain their actions in crafting our founding documents. James Madison, known as the father of our Constitution, wrote in The Federalist Papers, No. 10, "Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property, and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths". He went on to explain that a republic was the cure that they were seeking, a cure from the tyranny of a king as the Declaration charged, "… has abdicated government here ... He has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burnt our towns and destroyed the lives of our people.”


Many people falsely believe that our form of government is a democracy or a representative democracy. For the past 100 years or so, there are those who have tried to rewrite history and would have people believe that America was created as a democracy. Our founders were fearful of a democracy and wanted neither this nor a monarchy.


The government in a democracy is by the people or a rule of the majority. The power resides with the people and can be exercised by them either directly or indirectly. In a republic, the ultimate power rests in the citizens, but it is exercised by a body of elected representatives. The governance in a republic is according to the laws of the land. However, in a democracy, the will of the majority prevails and it can be based upon deliberation or governed by passions, prejudices, impulses or special interests with no restraints or consideration of the consequences.


It is only fitting that the first installment of the Republic Roots blog explains that America was founded as a republic. In the header of this blog, we include the quote from Benjamin Franklin, – the famous response he gave to a woman who asked as he exited the Constitutional Convention, “What have you given us?” “A republic if you can keep it,” Franklin replied.


Franklin knew that people, often in well-funded organizations or who are personal power seekers, would put their own interests above republican processes. The danger comes when people no longer know their history and founding principles.


Sadly, America has strayed from its republic roots. Congress and Presidents have repeatedly overstepped their bounds and assumed powers way beyond their constitutional limits.


Our founding fathers brilliantly set forth checks and balances in government that established it as a republic. Each branch can prevent the other from taking on too much authority. Another balance was states’ rights as expressed in the Tenth Amendment: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”


In our republic, of the three branches of our government - legislative, executive and judicial - only the legislative branch (the House of Representatives and Senate) is appointed by direct election. As originally outlined in the Constitution, members of the Senate were appointed by the state legislatures, a check and balance on the House that also provided for the interests of the states and a safeguard against demagoguery. That safeguard was overturned by the Seventeenth Amendment in 1913, due to the misguided Progressive movement.


So here we are today with a legislature that rushes pork-laden bills through without even reading them. We have a House and Senate that ignore the will of the people, a President that has abused his executive powers rendering Congress irrelevant and activist judges that legislate from the bench.


America, we are at a crossroads again of deciding whether we want to maintain our liberty or acquiesce to a tyrannical government. Our best defense is to reaffirm ourselves to the brilliant governing documents written by our founders, educate ourselves about the processes and actions of government, watch our politicians like hawks and hold them accountable at the ballot box.


The words of our father of the Constitution, James Madison, still ring true today:


“A well-instructed people alone can be permanently a free people.”


“Liberty may be endangered by the abuse of liberty, but also by the abuse of power.”


“The happy Union of these States is a wonder; their Constitution a miracle; their example the hope of Liberty throughout the world.”


Let us maintain our happy union, preserve our constitutional miracle and remain that beacon of hope and liberty for the world.
